George Douglas Shelnut, 37, salesman, of 1027 N,. Franklin Road, died at a local hospital 3:15 pm Sunday after a sudden attack. He had been in ill health for some time. Born in Greenville County Dec 28, 1924. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Will Shelnut.
He spent his life in Greenvile and was employed by Collins Provision Co, on Cedar Lane Road.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Fellowship Bible Class of the Sunday School and served the church. He was also a member of Sam Poe Lodge of the Masonic Fraterity.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Catherine Jones Shelnut; a foster son, Robbie Riles, of the home; two half-brothers, Brandon and Bobby Shelnut of Greenville, and his stepmother, Mrs. Etheline Shelnut Masterpole of White House Station, N.J.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.
The family is at the home.

Catherine O. Shelnut, 82, of Greenville, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003.
Born in Inman, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Mary Lanford Jones.
She was a member of the Eastern Star of the Sam Poe Lodge.
She was a member of Morgan Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. and Lorna B. Riles; a brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Alice Jones, all of Greenville; a sister, Helen Stroud, of Travelers Rest; five grandchildren, Jennifer Farr of Columbia, and Natalie and Graham Riles, Gary Buck, and George Douglas Shelnut III, all of Greenville, S.C.; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, George Douglas Shelnut Jr.
Memorial service: Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at noon in Remembrance Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park, with a private family burial later.
