Following obituary appeared in "The LaGrange Graphic" March 8, 1929.
Mrs. Betty Shelnut, beloved woman of Southwest LaGrange, died about 9am, Wednesday
morning, March 6, 1929, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Parker, on Elm Street, at age 66.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Bethel Baptist Church in
Chambers County, Alabama, with the pastor, Rev. Mr. Landreth, officiating. Mr. Lambreth
was assisted by Rev. W. O. Cofield, pastor of the Southwest LaGrange Baptist Church,
and Rev. G.W. Poer, pastor East Fourth Avenus and Troup Street Missions.
Hunter-Owen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Shelnutd is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Pearl Parker, Mrs. Lucy Worthy, and Mrs. Erma Gordy, all of LaGrange; one son George Shelnut, also of LaGrange; one sister,
Mrs. Fannie Brown, of LaGrange; two brothers, Littleton Johnston, of Chipley, Georgia, and James Johnston, of Alabama. She also leaves 11 g-children. --by Sandra Gordy --
