Bud was also known as the "Barbecue Man"-- He and his wife cooked bar-b-que for over 40 years- they started the 'Annual' Union Christian Church Bar-B-Que which still meets each year in May. Bud was an active member at Union Christian Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent, Secretary-Treasurer, and Elder during his life. -- Bud's age listed as 23 in 1920 census, and Mary Lou as age 20.

Mary Lou started piecing quilts for her family in her early life. They were necessary to keep warm and used for coverlets or spreads. Quilting was an art, and she taught her four daughters the art. She made them for her family, grand-children and g-grand-children, and for birthday and Christmas gifts.
