Herman D. Shelnut, 52, died at his home on Buncombe Rd, Travelers Rest, Sunday at
11 p.m. after two weeks of serious illness and a long period of failing health.
He was born Oct 21, 1901, in White county, GA, and his parents are W.B. Shelnut and the late Hulda Kinsey Shelnut. In early life he moved to the Travelers Rest section and continued his residence there for 30 years. He operated a saw mill there before his health failed.
Mr. Shelnut is survivd by the following daughters and sons of a former marriage:
Mrs. Lucile Huffling and Mrs. Lillian Evingston, Greenville; Mrs. Hulda Whitman, Greer; Miss Martha Shelnut, Greenville; Walter Shelnut, Marshall Shelnut and
Johnnie Shelnut, Taylors and three grandchildren.
His second wife, Mrs. Ethel Lee Sexton Shelnut, survive him with his father, W.B.
Shelnut, Greenville; four brothers, Floyd P. Shelnut, Charleston; Vernon Shelnut, Travelers Rest; Grady Shelnut, Columbia; and Tommy Shelnut, Greenville; nine sisters; O.M. Rochester, Mrs. A.J. Haney, and Mrs. G.R. Crumley of Greenville:
Mrs. Mrs. J.H. Batson, Mrs. Ansel Batson and Mrs. E.E. Styles Jr of Travelers
Rest: Mrs. Harvey Thompson, Winston Salem: Mrs. Dan Marescim, Miami,
and Mrs. I.J. Page, Greenville.
Funeral services will be conducted at Reedy River Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday
by the Rev. S.P. Hester and Rev. G.E. Gould. Interment will be in Mountain Creek
Baptist Church Cemetery, Tuesday, Jan 12, 1954
Six nephews will be pallbearers: Roland Styles, Billy Joe Batson, George Shelnut, Alton Rochester, Curtis Haney and Harold Brown.
Body is at the home of Mrs. G.R. Crumley, San Souci.
