Wendell Lee Shelnutt, 52, of Grantville, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at his home, following an extended battle with cancer. Born March 30, 1952, in Newnan, he was preceded in death by his father, Harvey D. Shelnutt. Survivors are his mother, Martha Norwood Shelnutt, Newnan; his wife, Vernie M. Shelnutt, Grantville; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Steve Neill, Newnan; son, Harold C. (Charlie) Brown, Grantville; granddaughter, Mallory Neill, Newnan; sisters and brothers in-law, Debra and Glenn Ragsdale, Peachtree City; Daffey and David Freeman, Hoganville; Diane and Bob Hughie, Newnan; nieces and nephews. Mr. Shelnutt lived in Grantville for 26 years, where he was active in Little League coaching and adminstration, was a J. Company Dancers parent volunteer, was a Coweta County Special Olympics volunteer, and was a dedicated member of Grantville First United Methodist Church, where he served as Lay Leader and held many positions on the Adminstrative Board. He was employed as a consumer supervisor by the Rutledge Center of Newnan, where he was able to fulfill his desire to help individuals with special needs. The memorial service will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, at Grantville First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Palmer Boykin officiating. Inlieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Grantville First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 95, Grantville, GA 30220.
