David migrated to Itawamba Co, Miss after 1860 census, and sold 160 acres in Itawamba for $800 in 1864. He was back in Alabama (Fayette Co)1870 census.
David Shellnut listed Census 1870, Palo PO, Fayette Co, AL, age 50, with 9 children, They had 14 children. Martha F. born in Mississippi.

The marker for Mary, at Berryhill Cemetery, reads "2 Sept. 1835 - 18 July 1917"
with epitaph that reads "We will meet again, beloved ones farewell."
The Courthouses have been checked for a marriage record of David and Mary Elizabeth
Benefield Shelnut. It could have been burned with some courthouse.

Elizabeth Betty Shelnut was born Aug 1859 Randolph Co, AL and the family apparently
moved to Ittawambe, Miss , shortly after 1860 census, where her father , David Shelnut,
sold land in 1864, and they moved to Fayette Co. Alabama.(census of 1870).
Betty married at her parents home in Fayette Co, 16 February 1879, to William A. 'Billy' Smith. He was born 1858 and died 1936, He is buried in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
His parents, Issac and Rachel Pennington Smithd were buried at Blue Springs Cemetery,
Franklin Co, AL
Betty [better known as Aunt Bets, by some family members] and Billy moved to Franklin
Co. about 1893, then moved to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee around 1926. They both died in
Tennessee. Billy had purchased a farm with two houses near the city of Lawrenceburg when he was about age 60.
The family stated that Betty would always plow up closer to the corn than Billy and he
thought that would kill the corn.
The ages of children were taken from the 1900 census report except the first child, who had already died. The names may seem different. than thought, to some of the family.

The record shows birth in Alabama, but doubful that her mother would have been there.
Her family migrated from Alabama aftrer 1860 census to Itawamba Co, Miss and left there
coming back to Fayette C, AL after property sold in Miss. in 1864.
Martha and Henry lived most of their life together in Marion County, near Guin. They farmed 120 acres and raised 14 children there. They lived in a two room house, having a
large front porch and a hall-way down the middle. The kitchen which was the main room had a cook stove, cupboard, table with benches for meal time, and chairs to sit, and two beds and a long fire place with hooks for cooking. The other room had three beds, dresser and chairs to sit in. There was [what was called] a clothes press in the hallway, which held
clothes and quilts.
