When the Article in History of Haralson Co was written, his home, (Alabama) still stood across the Hwy at the Springfield Church. The 1900c of Bursons list him and Mattie married 16 years with 7 children, 6 living. Census 1910 listed Maggie, age 15, not listed other census -- 1920 census Rock Mill, Randolph Co listed John R, Sr. (Next-door to John Jr.) age 58, Mattie J. 53.
They were in Rock Mills, 1930 census, with one son, Sparrel Shelnutt, age 24.
