According to some History of family, the twins were born in NC. It has not been determined when Elizabeth left NC. Elizabeth and John had another daughter named Lavina that died, while young. The Federal 1840c Franklin Co census list Elizabeth Shelnot with two sons (David James and John Jr) with her. Others with John.

The 1850c Campbell Co (Image 53) listed Thomas P. Shelnut, age 29 born NC, & 1880c list Thomas born 1817 Surry County, North Carolina. (First son of John in Surry Co 1820 was age 0-5.) The birthdate June 15, 1821 not confirmed, but used many times.
Thomas 'Pink' [Pink, not confirmed, but namesake of many children- for noted family of Governor Pinchney, South Carolina], Pink's father born in SC - The family migrated back to Franklin Co, Georgia 1834/35. - Twins born 1835 Franklin Co, GA - Thomas lived in Campbell County, bought property 25 Feb 1854 from BC Mitcham in Carroll (now Haralson) Co. In Haralson County 1860c, 1870c and in Town of Haralson 1880c.

He was listed 1860c Fayette Co as J.D. Shelnut born (correct age 34) NC (initials, same children) Family stated g-son (Joseph David) (son of Richard Henry) is namesake. Many Shelnut's have three names, so, his could have been Joseph David James Shelnut. --

John & Emily were in Haralson Co, 1860 census,l John age 26, & Emily age 23.
Their property on Bush Mill Rd was sold to George Allen & Charles Whitfield (half-brothers) in 1930/31. Many of the Shelnutts still live on Bush Mill Rd, and one in the old Bush Mill (remodeled). Other records list birth 1832 - died 1898.
Thomas (William Thomas born 1856, (unknown source listed death same year) was age 3, 1860 census, Haralson Co).
