John married young, possibly in Franklin Co, early divorced and migrated to Surry Co, NC by 1819. Listed in 1820c Surry Co, NC--John G. Shelnut, farmer, age minus 26 (b. 1798), one male age minus 10, one female minus 26.
Surry Co census 1820 listed Wiliam Shelnutt (1777) with family and unknown
Shelnutt families of Benjamin age 26/45 (had 4 males under age 10) & Richard born 26/45. --- Research on-going.
John G. Shelnut listed Surry Co, NC 1830 census: age 30/40; sons: one -5; one 10/15; females: two -5; one 5/10; one 30/40.
John came to Georgia to handle estate of Andrew [dad died 1825], moved to Franklin Co, Georgia about 1835, and listed Campbell Co 1840 census.
